Here I try to discuss something about novel
'The Sense of an Ending ' by Julian Barnes. Here if we think about title then
it is something which is ending and author talk about it. If any reader comes
across this novel they know about one main character Tony who uses to think
that in his old age he is quite happy and living alone. He got divorce from his
wife and has one daughter who has contact with both mother and father. He is
happy with solitude of his life but at the end of this novel his sense is going
to end that he done good karmas and so he is happy in his old age and so this
novel is about end of Tony's sense and so it is entitled as 'The Sense of Ending'.
Here we can have reference of 'Hindu Karmic Philosophy', too.
It is good description as psychological
thriller, we can understand that how our memories are lie and we think that I
am right but maybe it is not so. Because many time what we think that is not
right and something else which we know but we can't accept it. Thus, it is good
narrative.
Possibilities
are there, it may happen that he did not commit suicide and he is hiding his
personality. And literature is that we can't say with hundred percent but
possibility is that. So, we can interpret it many ways. Veronica related to
Adrian who is suffering in care in community because Adrian is a son of Sarah
and Adrian. So Adrian is a brother of Veronica and thus she related with
Adrian.
All
the mysteries are revealed in the novel. The reason of Adrian's suicide is not
much clear and open to interpret. It can
be because of his illegitimate relationship with Sarah as the novel ends with
this or it is because Adrian was existentialist, what his suicide note
suggests...
Another
thing which is not clear is why Veronica did not want to give him diary or
inform all the things clearly to Tony. At one stage she even stops giving him
clues. But it is not missing block with this indirect clues novel becomes more
interesting and mysterious.
